Chawlas 2 Sweets & Restaurant brings the Chawla's family recipes from North India to Redstone Plaza in NE Calgary. We are a North Indian restaurant and sweet shop, known for the original Cream Chicken, a family recipe that began in Haldwani, India, in the 1960s.
The story goes back to the 1960s in Haldwani, in the Nainital district of India. There, the late S. Attar Singh Chawla kept working on one of his favourite recipes until it became Cream Chicken: chicken cooked in milk and cream with black pepper and green cardamom. The family recipe is made with no red chilli and no vegetable oil, and the dish is served with bread and mint chutney.
From that one dish grew the Chawla's family of restaurants. Chawlas2 describes itself as a third-generation family brand, with restaurants in India and abroad, including here in Canada. The Cream Chicken is still at the heart of the menu, beside North Indian and Punjabi favourites.
Our Calgary kitchen serves the signature Cream Chicken with tandoori and tikka starters, Punjabi curries, biryani, fresh naan, street food like chole bhature, Indo-Chinese dishes such as Manchurian, and a counter of Indian sweets. Good authentic Indian food filled with amazing flavors. We had chole bhatura which was very soft and fluffy.
