Our story

The Chawla’s family recipes, now in NE Calgary

The Chawla’s family of restaurants began in Haldwani, in India’s Nainital district, in the 1960s. There the late S. Attar Singh Chawla refined one of his own recipes and created Cream Chicken: chicken cooked in milk and cream with black pepper and green cardamom, made without red chilli or vegetable oil and served with bread and mint chutney. At Chawlas 2 in Redstone Plaza we bring those recipes to Calgary, alongside tandoori starters, Punjabi curries, biryani, street food, Indo-Chinese dishes and a counter of Indian sweets.

Cream Chicken is the Chawla’s family signature dish, first created in Haldwani, India in the 1960s. Chicken is cooked in milk and cream with black pepper and green cardamom; the family recipe uses no red chilli and no vegetable oil. It is served with bread and mint chutney.

Do you have vegetarian dishes? +

Yes. The menu has many vegetarian dishes, including Cream Paneer, Shahi Paneer, Palak Paneer, Dal Makhni, Malai Kofta, Veg. Manchurian, Cholle Bhature and paneer and chaap tikka starters.

Do you sell Indian sweets? +

Yes. Chawlas 2 is also an Indian sweet shop, with barfi, laddoo, rasgulla, kalakand, milkcake, pinni and more. You can order sweets online.

Do you offer catering? +
